Avoiding tourist traps in Prague and Budapest

Two beautiful cities with a few bad actors. How to enjoy the night and keep your bill honest.

Know the difference

In both cities, some venues called 'night clubs' are brothels, and some bars exist only to overcharge tourists. We list neither. Stay with venues that publish prices and have a real address on a main street.

Agree prices first

Ask for the drinks and dance menu before you order, and agree the price of any private dance or table in advance. Pay by card where possible and check the bill before you sign.

Ignore the touts

Street promoters around Wenceslas Square and Váci utca who offer free entry are the classic route into an overpriced bar. Walk past and go to the address you chose.
