Book ahead
Championship courses take tee times days or weeks in advance, especially in summer and at weekends.
Bring your handicap
Many clubs ask visitors for a handicap certificate; some set a maximum, such as 36 or 45.
Dress code
Collared shirt, tailored trousers or shorts, soft spikes. No denim on the course or in the clubhouse.
Private clubs
Some clubs admit guests only with a member or on set days. Ask your hotel concierge to arrange it.
